The Challenge
Local retailers in Waldkirchen had noticed a decrease in customer frequency along certain streets in recent years. To adapt business strategies and revitalize the city center, the town needed to understand exactly how visitors moved through the area, where they spent the most time, and how successful local events actually were.
The Solution
Supported by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Rid Foundation, and the HBE, Waldkirchen installed over 120 Ariadne devices across the city to securely collect detailed traffic and retail data. The system was put to the test during "Waldkirchenplus," a major Sunday shopping event and Action Triathlon, to analyze visitor flows and peak times.
The Results
The analytics proved the event was a massive success, drawing 3,658 visitors—a 336% increase compared to an average Sunday. Furthermore, 43% of those visitors stayed in the city for longer than 30 minutes. Retailers can now use this heat map and transition data to plan targeted promotions, optimize product placements, and identify lucrative new retail locations
