The Challenge
In a walk-through duty-free store, every passenger walks through, but not everyone buys. One of Europe's leading travel retail groups wanted to understand how passengers move through a store of more than 1,300 square meters, where they stop, and how many actually reach the checkout.
The Solution
Since spring 2025, 24 sensors, a mix of Time-of-Flight counters and phone-signal surveyors, have measured the store zone by zone: from the entry areas through categories like fragrances, sweets and spirits, and regional products to the checkout. Daily data delivery and an API feed the group's own reporting.
The Impact
The pilot converted into an annual subscription and was renewed for a second year within nine months. In a single August the store counted more than 264,000 visitors, 56% of whom reached the checkout, at an average dwell time of just over six minutes, with clear route patterns separating early-morning shortcut traffic from midday browsing.
